Can a YouTube channel prevent itself from being featured in future YouTube Rewind videos?

While YouTube Rewind videos are no longer being produced (as of 2021), in theory, if YouTube were to revive the concept, creators could indirectly avoid being featured in a Rewind video by doing the following:

1. Avoid Trending Metrics: YouTube typically includes creators who have achieved significant milestones, like appearing on trending pages, amassing viral content, or significantly impacting the platform within the year. Creators who prefer not to be included could choose to maintain a low profile or avoid creating content designed to go viral.

2. Express Their Preferences to YouTube: While there’s no official "opt-out" mechanism for Rewind, creators could communicate directly with YouTube through their partner managers or by contacting support. They could request not to be included in such promotional or celebratory content.

3. Restrict Content Licensing: Some creators explicitly limit the use of their content by platforms for promotional purposes. If YouTube respects those restrictions, this could exclude them from being featured.

4. Publicly State Opposition: If a creator voices strong opposition to being included in projects like Rewind, YouTube might avoid featuring them to prevent backlash or criticism.

Ultimately, since YouTube Rewind videos are curated by YouTube itself, the platform holds the final decision. However, creators who actively make their preferences known or stay out of YouTube's spotlight have a better chance of avoiding inclusion.
