Is VAR the cause of Scotland's recent losses or just another contributor?

 

VAR certainly played a part in Scotland’s recent defeats, but it was not the sole cause of their disaster. A clear example came in a Nations League match against Croatia in October 2024, when Scotland thought they had a last-minute equaliser only for VAR to rule the goal offside. The decision is a blow, and adds to the frustration after a string of recent failures. However, VAR is just one of the many factors contributing to Scotland’s poor form. Injuries have left the squad severely depleted and the team has struggled to maintain continuity. Manager Steve Clarke insists that despite these setbacks, the team has remained competitive with top teams such as Croatia.
