How much of the 14% increase in global M&A deals announced in 2024 to $846.8 billion (year-to-date) is due to merger deals in the APAC region?
The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region contributed significantly to global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in 2024, although the region faced a number of challenges. Globally, M&A deals increased by 14% to US$846.8 billion year-to-date. However, in the Asia-Pacific region, transaction values and volumes declined. Transaction volume in the region decreased by 17% and transaction value by 32% compared to 2023. Some countries, such as India, saw an increase in deal values despite lower volumes, but there were no major deals in Asia Pacific in H1 2024. In contrast, other regions such as the Americas saw a sharp decline in deal value performance, led by large deals in the technology and energy sectors. So while Asia Pacific continues to play an important role in global M&A activity, the region’s contribution to the overall 14% increase in global deals was very limited, with other regions
